May 12, 2024 Update

Greetings Portage Residents,

It's starting to feel like lake season! We've had the most wonderful weather for the fishing opener and Mother's Day. 

May Event: Our May social gathering is at 7 p.m. this coming Saturday (May 18) at Y Steakhouse on US 71. We need to provide a headcount a few days in advance so please RSVP by Noon on Wednesday, May 15. 

Summer Solstice Party: Plans are starting to come together for our Summer Solstice Shindig on Friday, June 21. The general concept is similar to a progressive dinner. We'll have four stops (beverage, appetizer, main dish and dessert). We'll have 3-4 designated pontoons to shuttle people to each location. Ideally, we would have one stop in each quadrant of the lake - and then neighbors from that area can help contribute the food and beverages. If you are interested in hosting a stop or helping in another way, please complete this short form.

Private Stocking: There's been some progress on the private fish stocking project. I am so grateful that Gloria Hennen has taken the lead on this and has gathered details and pricing from DNR approved vendors. I'll share more information in a separate message once the executive committee has had a chance to visit about the process and cost.  

AIS Monitoring: The executive committee is closely watching AIS-related information released by HC-COLA and other organizations.The Enterprise published this article on Curlyleaf Pond Weed this spring. If you are interested in having weeds treated along and out from your shoreline, reach out to PLM to get a contract signed ASAP. The first treatment is usually in mid-June. 

Membership Dues: If you haven't yet sent your 2024 dues ($20), please do so this week so we can report our total membership to HC-COLA.
