All,
The minutes from our annual meeting are attached.
As expected the bulk of our conversion focused on Curly Leaf Pondweed. The minutes provide details about next year's treatment plans.
One of the questions asked at the meeting was how Flumioxazin (the recommended herbicide for 2026 treatment) works. Here is the answer (found online): Flumioxazin works on curlyleaf pondweed by inhibiting protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), an enzyme essential for chlorophyll and heme production. This leads to the buildup of toxic porphyrin compounds, causing photo-oxidative damage under light exposure, which results in the rapid decomposition of the treated plants. As a fast-acting, contact herbicide, flumioxazin kills the plant at the point of contact.
I also found this summary of research that was done on CLP and Flumioxazin in Becker County last year. You can find that here: https://prwd.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/PRWD_CLP_Flumioxazin_Summary_2024_MNSU_0020_Final.pdf
Also - a reminder that we'll gather for our September social event at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Lobo's (42 MN-200 in Shevlin).
Best,
Amy Aasen, President
